This September, The Leiber Collection welcomes acclaimed pianist and educator Anne Cavolo Tedesco for an intimate afternoon of classical piano inside the Museum Gallery, surrounded by the extraordinary paintings of modernist artist Gerson Leiber.
On Saturday, September 19 at 4:30 p.m., Tedesco will perform a program spanning more than two centuries of piano music, from the Baroque elegance of J.S. Bach to the dazzling virtuosity of Moritz Moszkowski. The program also features works by Mozart, Albéniz, Schumann, and Chopin.
The concert opens with Bach’s Sarabande from the French Suite in E Major, followed by Mozart’s Sonata No. 13 in B-flat Major, K. 333, First Movement, “Allegro.” The first half concludes with Albéniz’s evocative Asturias from Songs of Spain and Schumann’s virtuosic Variations on the Name “Abegg,” Op. 1.
Following intermission, Tedesco will perform three works by Chopin: Polonaise in C-sharp Minor, Op. 26, No. 1; Nocturne in F Minor, Op. 55, No. 1; and Barcarolle in F-sharp Major, Op. 60. The program concludes with Moszkowski’s sparkling Étincelles (Sparks), Op. 36, No. 6.
About Anne Cavolo Tedesco
Anne Cavolo Tedesco has enjoyed a distinguished career as both a concert pianist and educator. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, where she studied with Frank Iogha, and a Master of Music from the Manhattan School of Music, where she received a piano scholarship and studied with Zenon Fishbein.
Since 1982, Tedesco has served on the music faculty of St. John’s University, teaching music history, theory, classical piano, and fine arts. She has received numerous teacher-scholar awards for excellence in teaching and performance and has been recognized by her department for presenting annual performance scholarship concerts since 1990.
Tedesco made her debut at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, where The New York Times praised her playing for its “intelligent articulation” in Bach and “languid phrasing” in Ravel.
An accomplished performer, lecturer, and adjudicator, Tedesco has performed throughout the New York region and has guided generations of young musicians. Her students have appeared at Weill Recital Hall, Bruno Walter Auditorium, Symphony Space, and Baruch Performing Arts Center. She has served on the Board of the Associated Music Teachers League and as an adjudicator for the National Guild student auditions.
Tedesco is also committed to supporting young people through music. Proceeds from many of her concerts at St. John’s University have benefited the William B. Ronalds Visual Scholarship Fund, helping college students facing financial hardship. She regularly performs for the university’s Honors students and has presented concerts at Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton, the Puffin Cultural Forum in Teaneck, New Jersey, and the Montauk Library.
The September 19 concert will take place indoors in the Museum Gallery, offering guests the opportunity to experience live classical music in the intimate setting of Gerson Leiber’s paintings.
