The Leiber Collection is pleased to present an artist talk with painter and sculptor Julia Scheuer on Sunday, June 28, at 4:00 PM. Titled “Deep Into Texture,” this engaging conversation will offer visitors an intimate look into Scheuer’s richly layered, landscape-based artistic practice.
Drawing upon direct observation, memory, climate, and topography, Scheuer creates works that bridge painting and sculpture, transforming the physical experience of landscape into textured, evocative forms. Her practice frequently explores environmental themes, celebrating both the beauty and fragility of diverse ecosystems.
Through her work, Scheuer honors the labor, maps, and metaphors that guide a painter’s ascent, both literal and metaphorical, while inviting viewers to consider their own relationship to place, memory, and the natural world.
For our current exhibition in the Leiber Collection Sculpture Garden, Garden of Friends: Ode to the Sea, Scheuer has created a series of sculptural works titled Aquatic Flowers. Inspired by the rhythms and forms of the marine environment, these evocative sculptures feature hand-welded metal floral forms rising from weathered driftwood bases, seamlessly merging natural and industrial materials. The works reflect Scheuer’s ongoing exploration of landscape, ecology, and transformation, while paying homage to the sea’s enduring beauty and fragility.
Guests can expect a lively and insightful discussion on artistic process, materiality, environmental awareness, and the emotional landscapes that inform Scheuer’s work.
Join us for an inspiring afternoon with Julia Scheuer and discover the stories, textures, and landscapes embodied in her work.
